Mastering the Enhanced Cognitive Interview for Better Memory Recall

The ECI has consistently demonstrated superior results compared to the original Cognitive Interview.

Discover the Enhanced Cognitive Interview (ECI) course, the forefront of investigative interviewing. This training empowers professionals to effectively elicit accurate and detailed eyewitness accounts through evidence-based methods. By integrating proven memory encoding strategies, the ECI improves recall while minimizing errors, ensuring high-quality information retrieval. Ideal for law enforcement, legal professionals, and investigators, this course is led by Dr. Ed Geiselman, the co-creator of ECI. Start mastering this invaluable skill to elevate your investigative capabilities. Embrace this opportunity for growth and make a meaningful impact in your field today.

The Enhanced Cognitive Interview (ECI) is a refinement of the original Cognitive Interview (CI), incorporating additional social and communication principles to further improve the amount of accurate information recalled by cooperative witnesses. The ECI has consistently demonstrated superior results compared to the original CI and standard interviews. While retaining the original four memory retrieval techniques (context reinstatement, report everything, change order, and change perspective), the ECI emphasizes a more holistic, person-centered approach to interviewing.

The integration of these social and communicative components with the original cognitive mnemonics results in an even more effective interview technique. Studies show that the ECI can elicit a significantly greater amount of correct information (up to 45% more in some studies) compared to the original version, without a significant increase in the number of errors or confabulations (made-up details).
